Error in initial installation - exiting with status '7'

Fedora Silverblue - Bazzite spin (immutable OS)

I'm at a roadblock in the initial installation. Error Exiting with status '7':

ERROR: GROUP MEMBERSHIP CHECK ERROR.
The current user 'john' is not part of group 'libvirt' and/or group 'kvm'.

Checking groups:

$ id
uid=1000(john) gid=1000(john) groups=1000(john),10(wheel),959(libvirt) context=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023

Checking my user:

$ groups john
john : john wheel libvirt

Any recommendations?

You should add your user to the kvm group too.

Apparently there is a known bug in Fedora Silverblue.

In the Winapps instructions for using libvirt, it states the following:

Configure rootless libvirt and kvm by adding your user to groups of the same name.

sudo usermod -a -G kvm $(id -un) # Add the user to the 'kvm' group.
sudo usermod -a -G libvirt $(id -un) # Add the user to the 'libvirt' group.
sudo reboot # Reboot the system to ensure the user is added to the relevant groups.

However, this only worked for adding user to libvirt. It would not add my user to kvm.
In order to add user to group kvm, you must do the following:

grep -E '^kvm:' /usr/lib/group | sudo tee -a /etc/group && sudo usermod -aG kvm $USER

Now log out, and log back in for the changes to take effect.
