In retrospect, there was a mistake (and one third of a mistake 😆):
- on December 26, the game given away (the "base edition" of the game "Control") was not "new to EGS".
What allowed this giveaway to fly under the radar is that the "base edition" will not be discounted at all during the sales. It is a special case, because the publisher focuses on the "ultimate edition" (with DLC) and uses the "base edition" for:
- bundles with Humble Choice,
- giveaways on Epic Games store,
- subscriptions with PC Game Pass.
Meanwhile, the "base edition" is not sold on Steam: only the "ultimate edition" is on the Steam store. The publisher is not interested in selling the base edition, and thus does not try to incentivize sales by offering a discount during sales.
- on December 30, a trilogy will be given away, it is indeed "new to EGS". However, it includes:
- 2 games (Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider) which are new to EGS,
- 1 game (Rise of the Tomb Raider) which is already available on EGS.
Technically , that is 1/3 of a mistake. 😆
