Help enabling kikit GUI plugins

I'm trying to install kikit for the first time on MacOS 11.4. I am using python from homebrew (not the system version)

I have installed kikit via pip install using terminal and used the PCM in KiCad 6 to install the plugin.

kikit --help runs as expected but when trying to run kikit-plugin list I get the following error:

Is there a path I need to set somewhere or does KiCad need to be in a certain place? I have tried /Applications/Kicad/KiCad.app and /Applications/KiCad.app.

I am assuming once this what I need to resolve in order to get rid of this error in the GUI plugin:

There are some problems with the way KiCAD is packaged on MacOS. Please see and watch the relevant issue: #252

Unfortunately, we don't have this one completely sorted yet.
